Dean Halpin



Joseph Dean Halpin, Jr. of Page Hill Road, Chocorua, NH passed unexpectedly at his home on Friday November 27, 2015.  Dean as he was known by most was born in Lynn, MA on November 1, 1939 to the late Joseph D. and Phyllis (Thompson) Halpin Sr.

Dean graduated in 1957 from Perley High School in Georgetown, MA.  After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy where he served his country proudly during the Cuban crisis.  He completed three years of service and then returned to his roots in Massachusetts.

Dean enjoyed the audio-visual line of work. He began working for Western Electric also known as Bell Labs in North Andover, MA, to continue with his passion.  He did work for some time with Channel Seven in Boston (CBS) as a camera man/ video technician.

He also completed his Associates Degree at Northeastern University and Northern Essex Community College both in Massachusetts so he could expand his knowledge in the electronics field.

Dean and his wife Ruth met while they were both working at Western Electric.  Both were teaching staff members at the company at the time when they fell in love with each other.

In 1996 Dean retired from Western Electric / AT&T.  After retiring, Dean and Ruth packed up their home in Southern New Hampshire and moved north.  They found their serenity in Chocorua.

Dean along with Ruth had a special love for nature and going for walks in the woods.  He enjoyed hiking, camping and fishing which helped with the decision to move to the area.  He also had a passion for his model railroad; Building the models and sculpting the scenery for his trains. He was enthusiastic about tractors and owned a Kabota that he enjoyed working with. Dean was a licensed amateur HAM radio operator for over 50 years and worked many years in the local civil defense.  Dean and Ruth both shared a love for the ocean and taking numerous schooner trips around the coast of Maine. Dean enjoyed spending time with his beloved family most of all.

Dean is survived by his soul mate Ruth (Fowler) Halpin.  His children include, Heidi and Husband Dana Andrews of Groveland, MA., Heather and her Husband Todd Renaud of Chester, NH., Scott Halpin and his partner Jennifer Sims of Bartlett, NH., Dawn and her Husband Rick Corriveau of Rochester, NH., Robert Briggs and his partner Jen Metcalf of Raymond, NH.  Dean is also survived by several grandchildren including, Samantha Belmer, Trevor Renaud, Tyler Belmer, Jonathan Nickerson, Madison Renaud, Maggie Briggs, Jacob Briggs, Sarah Corriveau, Ashley Lafond, Robyn Metcalf, Cricket Metcalf, Emily Putnam, Joey Metcalf, and a great-grandchild, Damien Lafond.  Dean is also survived by his two Brothers, William Halpin of Milbridge, ME., and Jack Halpin of Phippsburg, ME along with his two Aunts and several Cousins.

A Memorial Service and gathering for friends and family to share memories will be at the Chocorua Community Church, 40 Deer Hill Road, Chocorua, NH at 1 PM on December 5, 2015.  All are welcome to attend.  A spring burial will be announced at a later time.
