Roger Marcoux, of Dragonfly Aerial Photography, will be returning to the WMARC to talk about the B.E.A.R.S (Balloon Engineering and Research Squad). Roger and Bruce Consaul from Kearsarge have been working with students from the Josiah Bartlett Middle School and on April 21 successfully launched a high altitude space ballon with weather, tracking and camera equipment. This was their second launch as part of the Global Space Balloon Challenge comprising this year of 398 teams in 54 countries. The balloon traveled 54.7 miles going from Bethlehem to between Porter and Parsonfield, ME. The balloon reached its zenith over Albany at 81.741'. The balloon was equipped with four cameras and broadcasted photos as well as a live stream feed. The B.E.A.R.S first launch last spring sent a balloon from Lancaster to Denmark, ME (52.67 miles) and reached an estimated altitude of 100.000'.

Roger and Bruce are very excited and anxious to share this science project with kids and the community. We are looking for teachers to offer this wonderful program to their students.
